During my break, aside studying I did a bit of running:
2015:
- Flitch Way NYE Marathon
2016:
- Cambridge Half Marathon
- Endure 24
- Some shorter distance races
2017:
- Cambridge Half Marathon
- Larmer Tree 10
- Milton Keynes Marathon Relay
- Hatfield Broad Oak 10k
- Endure 24
- Dorset Invader Half Marathon
- Eden Project Half Marathon
I got a little quicker at running a marathon - 4:48:26 (21 minutes quicker) but still did that with minimal training due to injury! Injuries still seem to be a constant blight to my running, however they have been my motivation in retraining as a sports massage therapist and I feel I have a far greater understanding of why I am getting injured and how best I can manage them. I feel that I have now found my purpose and use my passion to help others, not just runners and sports people but people from all walks of life for who pain has become a problem.
I also had a new experience of crewing for my husband in his first 100 mile and 145 mile races. This was a fantastic experience and I learnt a lot about organising and keeping a runner going during such an enormous challenge (it's more difficult than it may appear!). I may well write a separate blog post about my experience and lessons learnt for others who may be about to crew for the first time.
Not one to shy away from a challenge I decided to have another go at an ultramarathon! In 2015 (my last blog update) I completed 1 day of the 2 day Saltmarsh 75 covering 38 miles but decided not to start day 2. Whilst some would say this counts, I don't feel like a bona fide ultramarathoner. There are plenty of 50k races out there suitable for the first timers, however I have chosen to take on the Mudcrew Black RAT (Roseland August Trail) which is 32 miles of the South Cornwall coast path. This may be a decision to come to regret but there is a promise of food and cider and the finish!
Most recently I completed my 10th Half Marathon on my 35th birthday in Hawaii!!! I will restart my blog with a post on the Hapalua Half Marathon. Watch this space...
